TARGET Microwave Research Society
On 17 December 2007, the Kick-off meeting for the TARGET Microwave Research Society took place (in Frascati, during the TARGET Days 2007). So far, the Society will be formed by the following 11 organisations:
| ftw. The Telecommunications Research Center Vienna | Austria |
| Vienna University of Technology | Austria |
| Università di Firenze | Italy |
| NMDG Engineering bvba | Belgium |
| Universidad de Cantabria | Spain |
| Universidad de Málaga | Spain |
| Università di Roma ‚Tor Vergata' | Italy |
| Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya | Spain |
| University of Limerick | Ireland |
| Université de Limoges | France |
| Freescale | France |
The attending members also selected the provisional officer of the Society which is for the time being Prof. Gottfried Magerl (TUW).
Entry into the Society is of course still possible and we would like to encourage you to join (for more information please see the brochure and the application form)! One of our discussions during the Kick-off meeting was about the annual membership fee. We want to clarify that the Society is a non-profit organization and that the money will only be used to a minimal extent to pay its administration. The biggest part will be coming back to you as reimbursement for travels or effort.
By joining the Society you will contribute to build a stronger pressure group that aims to communicate the research interests of its members at EU level to make sure that our research topics are properly addressed in future calls from which we will all profit then. It goes without saying that the bigger the group, the more influence it will have.
Further to this, the Society members will benefit from professional knowledge exchange and numerous networking opportunities. The Society will also act as a broker on behalf of its members to arrange business opportunities.
Finally, we would like to inform you of the first tasks of the TARGET Society, which will be to promote our agenda at dedicated events. The first opportunity will be invited talks to the EC-internal workshop on ‘Micro and Nanoelectronics Design: Future challenges in R&D’ (January 8-9 2008). This event will influence the work programme of the next calls and Tom Brazil and Gottfried Magerl will advocate our needs in the session ‘Wireless Design’. On January 10 2008, the ‘European Microwave Interest Group’ will meet and discuss further steps. The event participants read as the who-is-who in microwave research with a strong participation of both industry and academia. It will be opened by Mrs Rosalie Zobel, director of DC G. Again, Gottfried and Tom will give voice to our needs in this field.

TARGET Days 2007 - From Ideas to Results

The TARGET Days Event has been held on last December 16th-17th in the magnificent scenario of Villa Mondragone in Monte Porzio Catone (Italy). As with all TARGET events, these two days were an excellent opportunity for the TARGET scientific community to discuss in a friendly atmosphere the results gathered in 4 years of activities, sharing their achievements with delegates coming also from different scientific fields and countries. The event in fact, was held with a partial overlap with a major International Conference (ISMOT 2007) in Microwave and Optical Technologies, and as expected the TARGET achievements were highly appreciated. In the event 23 oral contributions were presented in 5 technical sessions and attended by 49 TARGET registered participants. Simultaneously 5 Special Sessions were hosted in the ISMOT 2007 conference presenting the latest scientific results of the TARGET members.
